MARS Study Group Contributions
Scientific Advisory Board Member
Dr. Cooper was the lead author for the MARS Study Group and reported that knee hyperextension of >5 is present in one third of patients in large cohorts of both primary and revision ACL reconstructions. This knee hyperextension was a negative predictor of outcome, having the greater than 2X odds ratio of graft rupture. (Published – October 2018 issue – American Journal of Sports Medicine)
The MARS Study has now received a second round of NIH funding and is an award winning effort. Dr. Cooper has been on the Scientific Advisory Board since 2006, and has co-authored over 35 scientific papers related to this research on revision ACL surgery.
